How much does a 16" wheel and tire change...

the ride on a w126 1st generation MB? What might be the top of the line Michelin for this wheel? Of course I'm talking about a set.

Michelin tires are overpriced garbage.

Ok, we have different opinions on tire brands. How about the swap to 16" wheels on a w126 first gen?

I ran the following on my 420sel for a few years with aftermarket wheels. They rode quiet and smooth. Sold the set and went back to 15 inch defenders and it was a bit smoother but not by much. Handling wasnt much different.

16" rims are fine,60 or 65 height, watch off set,can install concentric adapters on rear but front requires machining hub. Power level is good if engine tuned well.

I prefer the 16" rims and tires over the 14", smoother, quieter, bit better fuel mileage,
suspension is still good.

Huh? 60 or 65? Correct height would be 205 55 16 I'm pretty sure. What does power level have to do with this?

Also many more tire options available in 16".

14" and 15" tires are going to the way of the Dodo bird.

Yes. 16 are a good replacement. Modern low profile tires are not what they once were, darty and harsh. Honestly I have some cool 16" but I kinda prefer 17 on most of my stuff now. 16 is even getting expensive.

Not mounted on a W126, but I'm running Michelin CrossClimate+ 215/60 R16 tires on 'Stormcloud'.
Great handling all weather tires, this set was made in Italy.
Meets the more stringent European winter tire standards.

Purchased from tirerack dot com, drop shipped and installed at local Big O tire shop.

Your call on size really. I can't recall what is stock but I believe 205/70/14.
Here's a page I use a lot!
