Unhappy The Gray Ghost Is Finished

Well, damn ;

A woman ran a red light at speed in her Nissan Rogue (?) hitting it hard enough to spin it, @ 4,000 + pounds that means she must have been flying .

The Gray Ghost Is Finished-mrecedes_side_view.jpg

Not surprisingly she jumped out and began screaming at my brother....

So, it's B.E.R., look at the fold in the upper 'C' pillar and the right front door still opens but is out of alignment .

Sigh .

I'm now on the hunt for an '86/'87 300SDL that needs an engine or transmission because this car was in fine shape, we'd replaced the cylinder head a while back and it ran and drove perfectly .

At least your brother didn’t get hurt.

That is a big hit.

It's not worth repairing, that's insane damage.

That sucks. Hope your brother doesn't have whiplash or any similar problems from the accident.

(I will say - that's impressive side impact protection. Took a hit at speed and even if someone had been in the rear passenger seat it looks like there wasn't any real intrusion in to the cabin.)

Post The Gray Ghost

No ; it's definitely B.E.R. due to the wrinkle in the 'C' pillar as well as the mis alignment in the R.F. door .

I'm no body man but I've been doing salvage reconstruct for 50 + years .

Yes, I got nailed in my Ranger three days after buying it, they're beginning to work on it now .

I'm really clad no one was hurt .

My brother was still pretty shaken up when I picked him up several hours later .

Amazing crash protection for a 35+ year old vehicle design. Long live the W126!

Was the nissan totaled?

Thumbs up Mercedes Crash Safety

A few years back I stumbled across a W126 that had been rear ended so hard the fuel tank was collapsed .

Both rear doors still opened and shut and the back light wasn't broken .

That's my kinda safety .

That ad has always felt like a horror movie to me. When I see the silent family it’s like they’re ghosts.

Glad your brother is okay.

Good luck starting over with a new car.

Haven't decided yet for sure but I may want to sell mine. Good interior, no rust, fresh front suspension, but terrible paint, blown output shaft seal on the transmission, leaking head gasket and cracked windshield. It runs and drives fine though and I have tons of extra parts.

Post Replacement Chariots

Jim, in Los Angeles I can find cherry 300SDLs all day long for $6K and nice ones for $3,500 , can't go there .

I appreciate your thinking of us though .
