Jim, in Los Angeles I can find cherry 300SDLs all day long for $6K and nice ones for $3,500 , can't go there .

I appreciate your thinking of us though .
I live in Vacaville. I am not 100% sure what I want to do with it yet but I need to decide soon anyway. I think it would make a trip there ok but it does need some work to be used daily. I did drive it everyday until I realized the head gasket was leaking though.

I wish .

Most of the cars in local junkyards are cleaner than his, he has some strange compulsion to never wash it .

Just drive it, I saw many W123 taxis in Morocco with more damage than that. LOL

Thumbs up Keep Calm And DRIVE ON !

Yes, I suggested that to him, I said he could get a window glass very cheaply but he's his own man and will do what he wants .

Things are different now but forty + years ago seeing old beaters like this and far worse was a daily occurrence .

Then I moved to Guatemala, C.A. and WOW some of the vehicles were bad .

For now he's driving my old 300CD and I hope not damaging it .

That's my kinda safety .
This is always in the back of my mind. I drive a Mitsubishi van, cabover engine and its game over if someone pulls out in front of me.

Post Collisions

Well ;

Therein lies the rub :

I still ride Motocycles and I have some 1950's imports and if I ever get hit or crash those my chances are slim .

I was recently center punched in the driver's door of my 2001 Ford Ranger body on frame crackerjack pickup truck ~ good thing I wasn't out in traffic, if he'd been going faster I'd be dead or at least in a body cast now .

That being said, if you're worried, don't drive dangerous vehicles ~ I'm apparently too stupid to grasp thing simple idea .

My poor W123 also got hit last December. i was driving in reasonable traffic when a guy in a Ford Ranger cut really close in front me. As we pulled up to the next intersection light,I moved one lane over to avoid being close to him .You can never tell what is driving a car these days.
The road turned left out of the lights and the lane i was in carries on straight but the one on my offside stops and there are signs indicating to merge with the other lane. So ...the driver of the ranger comes up beside me and shoves me sideways ,into opposing traffic, so he can get into my lane.
I yanked on my wheel to avoid the oncoming cars ,and we both ended up on the footpath. As i got out to get his details,he pulled away, dragging my car back, then like a the gutless coward he is,he took off.
I reported it to the police as a hit and run but i doubt anything will come of it even though he failed to give way and ran off with out handing details.
So now i need to repair my car (131,000 miles from new) at my own expense.
Insurance would write it off,but that is not an option for me as i'm too attached to it.

Post Hit & Run

Sorry to hear of this, Los Angeles and much of the U.S.A. is the same : cowards who cause collisions then split or don't have proper insurance....

The main thing is : you're not hurt I think ? .
