Exclamation W123 Wagon Inner Hatch Release Handle

Oh, boy ~ I foolishly dropped the ball on a lister here who offered me one for the right price (I forgot plain & simple) and bought one from Mercedes via a third party who bent me over sharply however I at long last have one in my grubby hands .

Mercedes has FIVE MORE in the Fontana, Ca. whse. so if you need one ORDER IT NOW, here's the part # : 123-766-00-43 .

Under $100 list price .

Made in Germany .

Too bad I can't upload the photo of the new handle in its factory Mercedes package...

I hope my Foster boys don't break it.....

I have never seen a broken handle, its the tab on the latch it screws to that breaks off. How are you going to deal with that?

Had a new mechanism piece made a couple years ago out of stainless...

Cost was about $25 but nobody seemed interested so I never pursued it further. Making a much stronger piece than factory is definitely possible. In fact the hole was undersized and drilling it out cost two drill bits so that stuff is tough!

That is pretty cool. After driving these cars for 15+ years now I have a whole pile of rear latches that have that tab broken off.

Oh, Boy ~

As usual I missed the actual problem .

I have no idea how I'll fix it, maybe Rogviler will sell me a new piece....

I'd love one, and I'm sure my friend's is broken too.

Post Hatch Woes

Well ;

At least I fixed the third row seat belts and installed new support struts so the hatch won't be hitting anyone's head .

The Pelican hatch struts are the same manufacturer as the originals, only the printing on them is different .

I would be interested in buying the piece as well. Out of my three wagons, only one has the inner handle, and that is only because I lucked out and found an intact one in a junkyard last year.

I'll have to look into it again. I think there's a way to order it direct now. I have no interest in being the middle man for manufactured custom parts, I've seen how that goes.

Subscribing.

Could use one of these myself, but completely understandable in regards to being the middle man.

Mercedes is making the latch again. They’re less than $100. I bought one but didn’t compare the two to see if the design changed.

Well, if anyone wants to try it, I got it set up on Shapeways:

https://www.shapeways.com/product/LHS7Q6FNH/merchandle9

Cost went up a little bit over the years. This is the same material I had it made in originally, their rendering is just really dark for some reason. It's been several years since I worked on it but I'm pretty sure I had fixed the hole size (this is the 9th revision). If not, use a drill bit you don't care about or use a sharpener on it. The only thing that's fiddly is taking the shaft apart, not losing the pieces, and then doing something to the end to keep it together. I think I was going to tap it for a screw but ended up peening the end over as it had enough material to do that. But there are several ways you could accomplish that task.

Originally I was going to have a bunch made, then do an exchange program basically. You send me your broken one, I send you a fixed one and fix the broken one for the next person. There would have to be a lot of people interested in that though. But if anyone wanted to do that you have my blessing.
