The eccentric bolt on the pedal may need adjustment. Is it staying in gear?

There is an eccentric bolt on the pedal? Don't know about it. The clutch was ok before and the bolt was never touched. I will try it after replacing the clutch master cylinder. The car drives ok except it moves ( bites ) when I lift the pedal very little. I remember the pedal used to be higher than that but not sure. One thing I don't feel comfortable is I can't shift from reverse to neutral. I think the clutch fails to disengage. I turn off the car to shift back to neutral.

The binding and the third gear popping out could be related. Once you sort that out you should be set. I sort of doubt the issue is internal. There is a pin to set the shifter to neutral when adjusting the linkage.
I dont use the pin, but adjust by feel when under the car I have a helper shift through the gears. When the shifter is in each gear make sure the gear is completely engaged at the lever on the gearbox. Be sure the Allen bolts on the shift levers are tight. If one is loose an adjustment there will be necessary. The lever should be vertical in neutral.
There could be in issue with the shifter itself binding, but it is most likely just in need of adjustment as the rods will bind if not set properly. Check the plastic pieces in the shift rod mount areas too. For the FSM method The shifter pin goes into a hole and sets it to neutral then each rod is adjusted accordingly with the transmission in neutral as well.

Just an update on the transmission. I replaced the clutch kit and slave clutch cylinder and the problem persists. I decided to replace the clutch master cylinder and viola, problem solved.

It was the master cylinder after all. Now the clutch is more positive and it bites when I release the pedal higher, used to be very low which means the clutch was barely disengaged or not at all so the gears are stuck. I would never imagine it is the master cylinder. I pulled out the transmission and replaced the clutch set for nothing! Well, that's life.

P.s. the car has not been driven much due to the lockdown but it has been very good so far with the limited driving.

I have a 1989 190d 2.5 with a 717.411 5 speed. Can you list the clutch part numbers and prices please? I need to replace my clutch and don't want to forget anything while the transmission is out. This would be a huge help. Tnx

I don't have the part numbers. I just order from rockaut0. I changed both the master and slave cylinders plus the clutch set. It came to about $330.

I would check the arms going into the side of the transmission for any free play. With the shift linkage removed, you should feel a positive dentent at the center position and then like you're definately moving something around inside if you move the lever. Tighten them up if loose (6mm allen key, hard to get at). Don't take the cap screw out, it's hard to get back in unless you drop the transmission or drill a hole in the transmission tunnel.
