'96 S124 Sportline Diesel

First time I have seen a oil burner Sportline before.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mercedes-Benz-E300-Sportline-Diesel-Estate-124-series/233511138025?hash=item365e5932e9%3Ag%3ANB8AAOSwpIVeW8In&LH_ItemCondition=2000%7C2500%7C3000%7C4000%7C5000%7C6000%7C7000

Edit: just noticed the transmission, looks like it has sports selection or overdrive - perhaps 722.5?

Yeah I think the US is left hand drive.

But seriously, I think most every 124 could be Sportline-optioned in the EU. I've seen numerous references to even the 4cyl gas and diesels, manual and auto tranny, with the Sportline package.

OP, thats still a 722.4 IIRC, no 4th beside D and only 3 and 2 below.

Yup, i think you're right taking a second look.

My '96 had a few odd factory additions which didn't appear on spec sheet or EPC, perhaps in cross over late cars they were using bits from parts bin or just testing new stuff out.

True!

They were offering it earlier on from what I read, and you could customize your Sportline with badges or debadged, and with the usual mbtex/leather, sportline leather, or that cool checkered fabric interior!

96 S124, last of the mohicans right there!

What new stuff were they using you as a guinea pig for?

There were a few odds and ends, but the oddest were two melon shaped objects fitted just south of the manifold branch.

At first I thought they were just standard cats, but MB said no, also didn't appear on any EPC or WIS datasheet.

Photos were here but may have been deleted.

Yeah that sucks, at least it was an easy fix!

I've been wandering the taxi side of the W124 EPC lately, some cool and unusual stuff there too.
