Oil change technique question.
Changing oil on lawn tractor this past weekend. Manual stated to fill filter with oil prior to reinstallation (cartridge with upside down mount). Did same thing when changing oil in my old Range Rover afterward as well (cartridge type at angle of almost completely upside down). Procedure is just like we do on main fuel filter change when we fill filter with fuel or diesel additive.
This makes abundant sense for oil changes on our cars as well, as it seems there would be less delay in oil pressure build up and oil feeding to engine as oil pump would not have to fill the new filter. I noted that after doing this on the Rover, that the long (and always a little worrisome) delay for oil pressure to build was substantially shorter. Despite my familiarity with this site and a brief search, I have not seen this discussed for cars with canister filters and am wondering why. I am of course aware of why this won't work on M103s and the like, but it sure seems like a good idea for fellow members of the more obsessively inclined perspective on such things. All comments appreciated and I apologize if this has been addressed before and I simply missed it.

I like the idea Hadn't thought of it before, but it makes sense to my simple mind.

Yes, I have prefilled the filter, where possible, for many years. The upside down filter on the M103 drives me crazy.
There is no down side to this approach, except maybe for the extra 15 to 45 seconds that it takes to do it. Have a great day, |

Great. Will plan on this as part of my technique for all of my cars now.
