Here is the site with the .pdf:https://images.harborfreight.com/hftweb/recalls/Jack-Stand-Recall-56371_61196_61197.pdf
"THIS RECALL ONLY CONCERNS JACK STANDS WITH THE ITEMS #61196, 61197, or 56371 The 61196 and 61197 jack stands can be identified by checking the item number found on the yellow part of the label on the base of each jack stand. The 56371 jack stands can be identified by checking the item number found on the label on the top of each jack stand. Following the lifting of any applicable “Shelter At Home Orders”, please bring your 3 Ton and/or 6 Ton Heavy Duty Steel Jack Stands, item numbers 61196, 61197, and 56371 to your local Harbor Freight Tools store to receive a Harbor Freight Tools gift card equal to the retail price of the jack stands you originally purchased (plus applicable tax)." Be sure to check the .pdf for yourself! The item number on the ones in my set 69579 and they are not the ones being recalled. I can't remember if I have another set somewhere in my garage.

Labels may be worn off of mine but I have some that look like 61196 & 11.
Also some that are supposed to be 12 ton stands that I use for the Cummins. AND note that the beautiful Cummins comes with a crappy under-built Dodge wrapped around it. Shoulda bought a bus and cut the top off.

I am wondering why I don't have a set of the 6 ton ones. I am going to have to un junk part of my Garage to look. I have always wondered about Harbor Freights have different item numbers on the same product. I always assumed they came from different plants somewhere in the PRC. If so not having one source saved them a whole lot of recalls. I do know I don't have any red jack stands.

At least they recalled them. I do not know if Chinese products are subject to legal action. There probably are at least a few things that need to be high quality to buy.
I use cheap jack stands as safeties for a jack but never to get under cars with them. Actually I am a little paranoid without wooden blocks as well. Actually getting under cars. Even with good jack stands. Never use hollow core cement blocks should be mentioned as some young fellows might use them. |

Thanks for the heads up. I'll have to see if there's even a label left on my jack stands to read. If I can't confirm they're not on the recall list, I'll probably just junk them. Too much at stake and replacements are too cheap to risk it.

We old guys used to occasionally hear of cars falling on people. Far less people work on their cars now. Than once did. So It has become less common.
At least one case in the last month in Canada. Where a guy stealing converters did not quite take his last one. I imagine they use the battery powered reciprocating saws. |

In the US in the old days US Cars came with those awful bumper jacks and people used to jack up their cars with them and think they could get under the car and out before anything happened them.
While Cars were built higher off of the ground back then suspension was kind of squish. That means if your Car came off of the jack once the tire hit the ground the car was going to continue down due to the squishy suspension. People that work on their own cars now a days seem to be aware of safety more then n the past. When I was a Kid I can't remember seeing Wheel Chocks sold in Auto Parts Stores. People used something less adequate like Bricks or Wood. Very few cut the wood to make the incline that wheel chocks have. People did not keep wheel chocks in their cars for on the road tire changing either (which seems odd as Trunks back they were huge compared now).

I thought the current requirement was for a locking pin for ratcheting jack stands. Maybe that is their reason.

Lucked out, one of my sets isn't Harbor Freight, and the other is Harbor Freight but isn't subject to the recall.
I need to get a lower set for the girlfriend's VW TDI. Actually I'll probably just do a topside oil extractor before then.
