I decided to give mine another whirl on possibly the grungiest carb I've ever seen to see if I should even bother keeping the thing.
I pulled the main and pilot jet out as well as the needle, changed out my diesel/degreaser fluid for about a 15-20% purple power/water blend. Sunk the bits down in, turned the heat to 80C, dialed up the timer to 30 mins and walked away. when I came back, it looked spotless. inside and out. Oddly the bowl turned black while still in the solution, but the rest of the carb body stayed silver, I rinsed everything off and dried it out, and I'm fairly confident it'll get that ATV running once more. The discoloration isn't a concern, a functional carb that looks funny is better than a dirty paperweight in my books, but I'm sure there are circumstances where that would not be acceptable. I'll be trying it some more with other stuff I need to clean up.
