Mercedes-Benz EGR Delete. Why?

Many of the Mercedes-Benz W123 sold across the USA were outfitted with components to reduce emissions. The W123 used what is known as an EGR. The EGR has its purpose for reducing emissions but other than that it is uesless. Being that the W123 is smog exempt (in most places) there is no downside to removing it. The EGR system sends hot soot filled exhaust back through the engine, adds complexity to your vacuum system and increases chance of failure.

So what is an EGR delete kit? An EGR delete kit is an aftermarket part assembly that removes a vehicle’s EGR system. EGR stands for exhaust gas recirculation and this refers to a mandatory component that is found in most vehicles.

An EGR delete kit removes the EGR system and allows a vehicle’s engine to run at cooler temperatures. This improves performance, makes an engine run cleaner, and last that much longer.

For those cheap people like myself you don't need to delete the EGR (on a W123) just un-plug it from the Vacuum Hose and plug off the vacuum line.

If you do that your EGR will never open.

6 years after disconnecting the EGR I had occasion to remove the Intake Manifold and found the passage to the EGR was plugged up. See attached picture.

This only happened once about 20 years ago; I was in Los Angeles and they were stopping cares to spot checking emissions. While it was likely just for information purposes I am sure if they saw any disconnection they would cite for that.

I was Driving my 82 Volvo Diesel and they let me by without testing.

Are you actually shipping orders?

It was one of the worst online shopping experiences I've had.

Best of luck to you, you're going to need it with customer service like that.

To anyone thinking of buying one of these, forum member Rollguy sells these also, and is 100% less sketchy than this guy.
