ECU BIN File Tuning Question

As I understand it, tuners tune a car by editing the .BIN file that is in the ECU. Specifically, the copy the file, edit it, and upload it to the ECU thereby accomplishing the desired tune.

My question: is the .BIN file unique to that particular ECU, such that it would not work on another identical car? Or is it, in effect, transferable?

I notice that, if one needed to, one could purchase the original .BIN file for the 05-06 CDI here: https://www.ecubin.com/original-ecu-files-mercedes-e320-3-0cdi. Could that be uploaded to any 05-06 CDI ECU? Or is there proprietary data that is unique to each ECU?

Thanks.

I would be surprised if it was not uniquely encrypted/coded to the specific vehicle and its other modules.

Ten bucks is pretty cheap for an experiment - unless you are afraid you could not undo it if it does not work.

Yeah, I think SCN coding has to be done so a given ECU is linked to particular VIN.
