Question Mobil 1 question

I was to order online a Mobil 1 full synthetic 5W30 for my 2008 MB E320 bluetec but I became confused when the bottle says :"for gasoline engines"
If full synthetic, are there any difference if oil is labeled for gasoline or Diesel?
There are also some full synthetic for Diesel but 5W40.
Thanks for your answer.

Use diesel specific synthetics. Walmart sells diesel specific brands of synthetics. Both my diesels use them.

My Corvette calls for; a specific 5w-30 Mobil 1, and now a special 0w-40 Mobil 1, I use them.

I saw Walmart selling "Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck Full Synthetic 5W-40.
Is this the one you are talking about?
Thanks

One of many that are perfect. I'm using Delo diesel synthetic. Cheaper than Mobil 1.

At a minimum diesel engine oil will be C rated, your owners manual will show more specific ratings/approvals. Gas engine oil will have an S rating.

Good luck!!!

The right Mobil1 for the 642 has the “ESP” suffix. Also compliant with the MB 229.51 and 229.52 specifications. Note that 229.5 is the gasoline engine compliant oil.

This is the low ash oil that is essential for protection of the DPF.

^ This exactly. The only mobil 1 oil that is approved for your engine is the one with "ESP Formula" in large font on the label. It has a green label and green bottle top.

I found on Walmart for $9.99 per quart.
I would prefer the 5 qt bottle but they don't carry it
Thanks

that cutting oils your running are killing motors. 5w40 much safer. they use thin oils,to brag on mpgs, while thoose motors are eating themselves up.

Which om642 vehicle do you run 5w40 in, mind sharing?

I run 0W30 ESP and the label has prominent green colors, large font ESP, and a cartoon of a car with an absurdly huge DPF. However the cap isn’t green, it’s silver like the rest of the bottle.

Not trying to be difficult, but there are ESP bottles out there with gray caps, and I didn’t want the OP to turn down the correct oil because it had a gray cap.

Just an aside, 229.1/.3/.5 are all diesel-rated also. 229.5 is now apparently specced by MB for some of the older diesels without DPF like the OM603.

Added a Mann Provent 200 to the PCV line and am now running Rotella t6 5w-40. I have been amazed at how much blowby oil that thing catches. I drain it every 2,000'ish miles and get about 2-3 ounces of oil that would have gone through the turbo, intercooler, and intake. When I did the oil cooler seals the gooey tar that is normally coating the intake was actually dry and starting to flake off. Keep the oil out or the intake and the soot from the EGR doesn't have anything to stick to. Hey, it's working for me.
