2005 E320 CDI, fuel leak appears to be coming from the
bottom of the high pressure fuel pump located at the front of the engine.
At this point I cannot tell if the actual fuel pump is leaking or if there's a fuel line in close proximity to it. I have all of the covers off but I cannot tell for sure if the fuel pump is actually leaking. Has anyone had an experience with this type of leak?

like any leak, clean above it/start from the top to isolate the leak.Maybe an early case of "black death" caught early.

Yes. In my case the pump itself was leaking...your symptoms sound the same as mine. I was able to source a reman pump for just over $500 a year ago.

It's funny that you would say that because I'm experiencing early black death on the injector of the first cylinder.
I would wipe the fuel pump clean then run the engine, funny thing is the bottom of the fuel pump got hardly wet. This would be my first experience with black death, could the fuel actually be coming from the injector that's leaking carbon? Makes sense!
