I bought the 83 SD

Just returned from Grand Island, Neb. Purchased the car, drove for six hours thru 100 degree heat at an average of 85 mph. Car ran excellent and despite the heat the A/C kept the car Cold, duct temp was 38 degrees in 100 degree heat, amazing. Car averaged 22.3 mpg.
The car was owned by a doctor who bought it new in 83. He owns seven cars hence the low milage on the car, 52,350.
Car is overall excellent, but not perfect. The paint is amazing. The interior is good to excellent, armrest shows some wear, wood, dash, carpet door panels etc are like new. New tires ,spare has never been down, new brakes, completely new A/C system. Clock does not work, pax side vacume lock inop, car pulls slightly to the right, last major servicr was a year ago so that is due. Other than that it is a time capsule. I purchased the car outside the auction, he had 43 emails regarding the car, offers as high as 6500. Fortunatly for me I struck a deal yesterday just after the car was listed.

Congrats Captain! Hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine. I still get offers to sell mine when I'm at the gas station and other places around town since the previous owner took such good care of my car. I was even thrilled enough with mine to purchase the original sales literature from ebay that talks about the 300sd complete with color samples and interior swatches. Have a great time with her (looks as if you know your benzes anyway from your list!).

Bill, I can't belive I'm saying this, but you should look for a 94 or 95 S350. I hear the later models are good engines. Someone at our NJ diesel meet had a 95 S350 with 310K, this thing looked brand new. A connecting rod bent at 280K, and he had that rod replaced, and it still is running great.

The W140 are beautiful cars, but expensive to maintain, make sure you check the evaporator situation too.

What business are you in?
