What's the down and dirty way to get a window regulator
Assuming no battery and window is up, what's the easiest way to get the regulator out? I'm ultimately trying to get the window trim off a door or two because mine is tweaked. I'll take the regulator too.
I'm not sure any of my tool batteries will work and always lowered the window to remove the regulator. Will the arm slide manually to allow removal?

The sliding jaw will do just that. But I do not think you will have enough room to slide it all the way out of the track. Do not think you can manoeuver the regulator enough inside the door if the arms will not retract. You can try but not sure it will work with the sliding jaw still attached.
Guess you could drill out the rivet in the sliding jaw. That would work. But I would try taking a battery of some kind to run the regulator down. |

My 1st goal is to get the window chrome that is on the door. My 2nd is to get the regulator for a spare. I'll just thought of and will look at removing the motor then letting the window down without the drive gear stopping the window from moving.
Other ideas"

On a W126 you should be able to get the regulator out without moving it, just unbolt it from the door first.

I've removed one before with it fully up on a parts car, I was able to fit my Hand up in there with a small 10mm wrench to loosen the two holding it to the window frame.

Dinman- so you were able to slide the sliding jaw off the track? Or was it already busted?

Little late to the party but on the W126 300SD, I was able to remove the 2 screws holding the motor to the sector gear housing and "unscrew" the motor from the gear. I did have to pry it down a smidge to get the mating faces clear to allow the motor to turn. Once the motor was out, I could pull the window down and push it up fairly easily. The motor was bound up which is probably why I was able to do it this way. You may have to pull the screws then power the motor with a jump box or power tool battery to get it to unscrew itself from the gear.
