changing out '95 E300 Diesel fuel filter...

Peach parts shows a part number of 601-090-16-52 and the one i have that came with the car (the guy i bought it form 8+ years ago did all his own work) has the part number 601-090-15-52. Does anybody know if these are the same filter? Peach Parts is closed right now.

i think my filter should be replaced as i am getting a small puddle of diesel on top of the filter housing around the shut off valve cap. this cap has a cotter pin it - how tight do i put this shut off valve cap before i put the cotter pin back in?

Is that an OM filter? If so check with a dealership. As far as the fuel puddling, I can't see how that would be clogged filter related. Be prepared to crank engine for a while after changing spin-on type filter if you do not fill new one before putting in place. It also has a small mesh type fuel filter adjacent to the spin-on type one.

Hi thanks for getting back to me. it is an official MB fuel filter - still has the seal on the box top too.

the reason i figure filter is bad is that the fuel probably gets shot up through the middle - then through the paper filter cartridge and leaks back down on the outside of the filter to the injectors or that other filter? if the filter is shot then some fuel might leak up through the top since it is under pressure?

i always do my own oil but with this i am a little nervous about the cotter pin through the shut off valve cap and i can't find any info on it.

it's my daily ride too so i can't screw this up.

I don't remember any cotter pin through shut off knob. I will look tomorrow AM.
Zero Fahrenheit out side and dark. I usually keep the top of filter cartons in armrest console.

thanks for checking........i don't see a mesh filter in the area of the fuel filter either. The cap just broke off but them stem is still functional - ugh-

maybe that cotter pin is pulled when you need to engage the 'stop' flow fully. It is there to prevent accidental fuel shut off?

let's verify that what i am looking at is the fuel filter itself - that would help .
it sits right behind the radiator high on the engine just to the left of centerline of the engine - cannister is next to power steering reservoir.

I just found a post doing a better search -Bolognablake from 11-30-2017 and he has a picture of his fuel filter - and mine looks nothing like the simple bolt he is showing on his. the mounting bracket is different too. sigh................guess i'll wait and do more research into this.

is this mesh filter under the cross over pipe?

thanks for your help!
