W123 Front Hub
Hey all,
I've royally screwed myself. I was replacing the races and accidentally installed one of them backwards. It is impossible to punch out, so I'm assuming I'll have to get a new front hub assembly. Anyone know where to find one or if anyone on here is selling one? Any help is appreciated. Thanks. |

Have a couple of lumps of weld applied to the race so that you have something to punch on.

Call an automotive machine shop and ask what they would charge to pull out the bearing race. A cheaper way to go would be to buy some cylindrical grinding stones that you can put on a drill motor and simply grind through one or 2 sides of the bearing. It does not matter if you grind out into the bearing race bore in the hub as long as you sand down any burs that protrude inward into the bore. The mentioned welding could work. In fact if there is room enough a piece metal could be welded a cross the bearing and you could apply a punch to the metal. Muffler shops would likely do the welding thing cheap. If want more skilled welding go to a welding shop.

If you put a bead of weld all the way around on the bearing surface, it will fall out when it cools. The weld shrinks the race enough to let it fall out.

Inverted can of keyboard cleaner. Freeze the race and it will slide out

A Dremel tool with a cut-off wheel will cut through a bearing race in short order. (If other recommended techniques aren't feasible.)

Right on guys thank for the help. I'll try out a few of these techniques before taking it to a shop and let you all know how it goes.
