Hey all

I know the group 49 or H8 is listed as the replacement battery for the E320 cars, but as we know, sometimes a larger battery will also fit.

The 49 is already a large battery, but I'm wondering if a 95R will fit in the space...probably not but it's worth asking about.

I also have a new AGM 94R that I know will fit (slightly shorter than 49)/

Do you think this applies for the AGM batteries as well? The weight issue I mean? I would think you can't compare weight of the AGM vs lead acid battery.

No idea about the weight but the form factor should be about the same. Do they even make a group 31 AGM? Those are generally truck and deep cycle batteries. On the 211 wagon at least I think there's enough vertical clearance above the battery for the group 31. I assume the sedan is the same.

Yeah, I wasn't referencing the group 31 battery with the question, just about AGM vs their lead acid counterparts in general.

If weight is an issue how is that dealt with on AGM vs lead acid in the same size?

I'll just have to measure the cavity and see if the 95R-950 will fit or whether I use the AGM94 I have will be it.

I wouldn't use a W211 gasser station wagon application battery. Use the '05 & '06 CDI application....

From what I can see the 211 all use the group 49 H8 battery regardless of engine.

If the battery has the same CCA / RC I don't see a problem with a different group number. In the case of the 95R-950 it actually has better specs than any group 49 battery I've seen.

What are the different battery styles, sources, and part number batteries you're shopping for the CDI?

For the moment I'm not shopping any battery. I have two new batteries at the house now, 94R AGM and a 95R-950 lead acid battery. One of these two will suffice in the CDI for now. If the 95R is too large I'll use the 94R instead.

The 95R is optimal since it exceeds the CCA of the Group 49 standard, but if the 95R is too large for the space, and it might be since it's about 2" longer (at 15 3/8") than the 49 then I'll just use the 94R AGM instead.

I was just curious about the size of the battery space in the CDI and whether it would support the 95R or not, that's it.

What are your sources, and part numbers on these batteries? I'm not able to decipher your codes. Do you have photographs of these batteries that you can post up?

These aren't 'my codes' they're group numbers; common identifiers for batteries that define size and power levels, throughout the industry.

EDIT: Honestly, all I really need to know is what's the max length available in the battery tray on the E320? If no one can provide that then the discussion becomes a huge waste of time.
