95 E300D OM606 glow plugs.. is an induction heater worth buying
Thinking of trying to change glow plugs when I start my next round of preventative maintenance work.
Has anyone used the induction heater? Did any still break off? Any brand, model, source recommended? They appear to be about $179 and higher now. That's not a bad price for something that can help loosen rusty nuts on things like a mower deck spindle. |

I am doing them in my 99 turbo diesel. I bought one just to be safe, but 2 have come out easy. The other 4, after a little in/out and lots of PB Blaster and giving them time, are coming out little by little. I'd spend a little more on one but you can use them for so much more. If yours have been in for years, it's probably worth the peace of mind to be able to heat them up, spray some penetrant, and work them a little at a time.

There is a tool rental program here. So you can either look there and rent, or buy and offer it for rent to recoup some over time.

I'll tell ya what my experience is as I just got mine today. All but #6 I got out without it, just using pb blaster, wd40, and patience. When it finally came in I wanted to test it out and couldn't even really get it on #6. If you haven't ordered it yet I wouldn't waste your time unless you got a really long attachment you could custom bend to what you wanted. If yours came with a really long attachment where if you could set the circular part on the table and the legs be standing upwards then it might help on most of them. I wouldn't buy it unless you're gonna be doing like brake or suspension work on crusty old vehicles with years of dirt and rust caked on them.
