5 or 6 inch clamp just needs to go over the hub plus the wood. Remember to disable your electric brake system.

The plot thickens, so the Indy that diagnosed the car would not be able to do the work until late next week. I couldn't wait that long as I use the car daily so, I went to the shop next door. He replaced the wheel bearing and THE ESP AND ABS lights remain on and it didn't solve the problem, my steering is still stiff like there is no power steering. Now FRUSTRATED and 445 dollars poorer I will work on it myself. The wheel sensor still has a fault, I wonder if I should replace again? ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!! THANKS

As I understand it after watching a YouTube video on the W211, with the key in position 2, your separate the connector for the sensor.
You should have a slight DC voltage at the side of the connector that goes to the vehicle. Then you put your meter on AC voltage and read the wires to the sensor while someone spins the wheel. Am I on the right track?... Thanks again

If the wheel that is generating the error has any detectable play it can cause the wheel speed sensor to malfunction.
My cousin faced this error code and also replaced the sensor, then the wheel bearings and finally the wheel spindle. As I recall he reported that the worn spindle was the root cause. After replacing the spindle he was able to get the preload set correctly and the error disappeared. Apparently if the wheel is wobbling to any degree it can cause inaccurate or faulty speed readings. I'd also check the wiring from the wheel speed connector to whatever ECM is processing the wheel speed signals.

Yes you are on the right track but you must remove the grease from the sensor as the grease affects the magnetic field causing your error.

w211 e320 esp and abs fault
Had the very same problem this past April 2021. Turned out to be front wheel sensors. I replaced one once before. Easy to do. This time one was replaced under a recall and the other one was replaced also. Steering was heavy and cruise control didn't operate when the codes flashed in the dash display. It's an easy dIY of only an electrical connection and one bolt if I recall correctly. It was intermittent. I checked my repair order and didn't see any recall notice number or other identifying data concerning the recall. steve
