'78 240D Driveshaft(Manual Transmission)
I continue to search for an answer to my question in the database but have been unsuccessful thus far. Does anyone know the correct part number for the 2-piece shaft for a manual transmission? I can't find a part number listed on my original but it does have one green and one red color band.
According to the Polish website the part numbers are as follows: Ref. Cat Car Info site for 123.123, propellor shaft, 2-piece shaft(figure 8) 1234104106 Version LM...(presumably the manual tranny) 1234104206 Version LA...(" " auto tranny) Mercedes doesn't seem to recognize the part number for the manual(-4106). The auto transmission shaft (-4206) is available from an online MB orginal parts dealer for $300. If that's an entirely new shaft pre-assmembled, that's a great deal in my book but that's assuming I can find the correct shaft. Re: attached image, figure 8 from the site referenced If I order that part number would I receive the part as pictured i.e. both halves, intermediate bearing assembly installed, centering bushings, and flex discs? Or do I just get the front and rear shafts minus all the replaceable parts? The reason I ask is because in rebuilding my shaft I realized the u-joint is pinned and the only way to replace it is to replace the entire shaft BUT if the part number I listed is complete then replacing the entire thing may be a better investment. I realize I could take it to a shop and probably have them install a new u-joint in my shaft but I can't imagine that would be any less than $200 then I still need to replace the rest of the parts, tear down, and rebuild. |
