Tricks removing OM617 front crankshaft spacer

I am replacing the front seal and spacer, which has the typical groove contributing to the leak. The spacer is being onery. I took the upper seal cover off to get behind the spacer with a screwdriver. Not much progress if any. I am considering heating the spacer with a torch. Has anyone tried this? Can someone advise a more elegant approach? Thanks.

Use two screwdrivers simultaneously, 180º apart.
