Window Run Replacement on W123

Hi,
I am preparing to replace the window run on front driver's door on my 83 300TD. I've searched for directions here and on other forums but have found nothing very helpful.

Hoping for some tips from those who have done this.

Here are the steps I'm sure of:
Remove door panel and plastic (done)
Remove inner and outer sealing rails

Now my questions:

Do I need to remove the window or can it be lowered enough to be out of the way? If I do need to remove the window do I need to remove the window lift to do that? I have replaced a couple of window lifts in the past but it was years ago and don't remember how everything fit together. The garage is cold and I don't want to spend too much time screwing up.

Next step would be remove old window run and replace with new.

Thanks for your help
JD
