Hope your engine is okay. I did mines a couple a weeks ago when I noticed they were weeping oil at 410k miles. It's a nightmare of a job to do

Fortunately that is not my car, just a tragic snap.

If they decide to part the car out, I need a front windshield.
What does the interior of the car look like. It also ought to be easy to ask them if there was knocking noises before they stopped. In fact, what year and model is it. My Body is rusted and so on. I have my Transmission out and the cylinder head off of my Engine. It would not be hard for me to put my Engine into that car if it is decent and the price is reasonable. I am presuming it is in the Los Angles area.

I'd go take a look .
All Star Glass in Gardena replaced my 240D's windshield for $250 installed.... They had me make an appointment and had me in and out in 30 minutes . I always recommend replacing the grommet .

OM616/617 Oil Cooler Lines
There's a thread on repairing the old ones somewhere here, IIRC the hose is 15MM I.D. and needs to be a specific typ of hose to withstand the Diesel contaminated oil .
Don't use regular screw clamps either . IIRC you're in So. Cal. so having a hydraulic hose shop like Hose Man should be the easy way out . Jut make sure they understand it's going to be used on a Diesel engine .

I will keep that in mind. I can replace the windshield myself. If it is like the rear there is going to be rust under the rubber.

I'm old so this used to be a regular part of service, replacing leaky grommets or cracked / broken glasses .
It's not terribly difficult, just takes time and patience . -once- I tried to be clever and use silicone spray, that was a disaster and it took me some time to clean all that damn silicone off so I could install it .

https://www.benzforce.com/collections/om617/products/10an-to-18x1-5m-adapter use these, lets you run modern AN hose with any oil cooler of your choice. I am using the 19 row mishimoto mounted in from of the radiator, and I think it is working well. This summer will be the real test, with a bigger turbo and all. The 19 row has 20% larger surface area than the stock one, and I put it in front of the radiator which has the fan+shroud. The stock behr I think is undersized for high load in high heat. I recommend one straight 10AN fitting for the lower, and one 45deg one for the upper. I used two straight fittings and I had to bend the hose and have it pinned against the FIP in a way I don't like. You need a 27mm wrench, thin 22, and thin 24. ************** sells the wrenches (ripoff alert) but you can do what I did and go to autozone and buy them, then use an angle grinder to grind them quite flat. If anyone wants to borrow my three wrenches, you can for the cost of shipping to and fro. |

Quote:
silicone is anathema to windshield work. it absorbs water and causes leaks in addition to interfering with polyurethane (a proper sealant). old style gasketed windshields like ours shouldn't need polyurethane (most modern ones do), but mine needed some around a corner. |

Yes, I know that now
![]() I tried the aerosol silicone after fighting with the string for many years, I discovered the typ of string makes all the difference . I no longer use a string, I use wire with plastic insulation, it's so much slipperier than my old nylon string / rope was . In general I try to avoid silicone RTV , of you have an unbent body and good quality grommet it shouldn't be necessary . I foolishly thought spraying the grommet would make the string slide out easier, instead the grommet kept falling off, lesson learned .

Ebay. It is made by URO. I just bought one last week for my 84 wagon and bought one for my 82 240 a couple months ago.
