OM 648 injector seal job

what are the odds i need a slide hammer to remove the injectors? only one inj is blowing by and the rest look pretty clean. if i run the motor for a while do y'all think the injectors will come out?
any other advice before i get into it?

The chance will be high. You never know until you try it. When I did my CDI, 5 injectors came out with the slide hammer but not the 6th cylinder one. It is way at the back which makes it is awkward to slide the hammer. Not sure whether it was the awkwardness or it stuck good. I couldn't remove it.

I bought another extraction tool but it required to remove the top of the injector, put an insert in and thread it out. Even that tool had a hard time extracting it. Bottom line, it is not easy and no fun.

the thread bore on a couple of them seem wonky. any idea about the tap size i need to clean them out?

You meant the hold down bolt? It is M6. Make sure you clean the thread well, really well and you can thread the bolt all the way down by hand. By hand only. I buggered up one of the thread and it was a royal pain to fix with a heli-coil.

Btw, you are suppose to use new bolts.

In the video the guy needs a better body position to work the slide hammer. He would do better if he could get the hood open more so he could stand as straight as he could.

Also, the weight on the slide hammer seems a bit on the light side. It needs to be about 5 pounds and he could also have someone else hold the slide hammer rod while he uses both hands on the hammer of the slide hammer.

He has a homemade puller! Bottle jacks? I would have gone with some threaded rod.

the new bolts came with the kit so i will be using them. i hope it's just dirt because i can't thread it in.....i have a brush kit on the way and we'll see how it goes.

It looks like you can answer your own question. Do you or do you not need to use a slide hammer? I think it is for the common good to post what you have done while you tried to solicit wisdom from the forum.

update: they all came out by hand rather easily. except the one that was leaking required me to put a wrench (1 1/8") on the injector body and gently turn it back and forth to break the carbon build up. after a few minutes of gentle turning it pulled out.

i sort of screwed up a bit and had to do this on a cold engine (don't ask) so i was surprised they actually came out like that but they did!

key takeaway is clean as much debris out with a pick and then blow the area out with compressed air.

I bought the deluxe brush kit off Amazon to clean out the bores and whatnot.....
