Help me find the right alternator?
It's an '83 240D.
The old alt stopped charging. This is my daily driver so I went to the parts store and got a Delco rebuilt to get it back on the road ASAP. It's the wrong one! The nose is too short, so the fan and pulley from the old one won't work. The old one has a roughly 3/8" spacer in the stack, the shaft on the new one is a bit more than 3/8" too short. The old one is a Motorola, made in France, says Mercedes on the label. The alternator on the Peachparts website is a week or two away, but worse yet it looks identical to the Delco unit, which doesn't fit. How can I be sure of getting one that will work?
