Bosio Nozzle Review 👎

Had a set installed on the black 99 e300 a few months ago and had the pressures reset to factory specs. Well it’s probably been about 500-600 miles I’ve put on the car the past few months and expecting them to quiet down. However, they haven’t. It sounds worse than a diesel tractor. I am considering getting the firad nozzles. The hot start of the car improved, cold start is great, power is phenomenal. But the noise drives me nuts! I don’t recommend them for any om606 if you hate the sound!

I am going to try some cetane booster to the tank, and hopefully shut them up some. If the radio isn’t on, I’ll go nuts!

Maybe it's your pump not your injectors. You say that "had pressures set to factory specs" Did you do this yourself? Or did you send it to a place that has a proper test bench to not only pop test but flow test the injectors. It's quite possible your pump is also out of calibration.

I sent them to a shop with a Bosch machine.

Have you tried running some Diesel purge through it. I have found that helps quiet down noisy injectors, even with new nozzles. Honestly, 500-600 miles is not a lot of drive time on new nozzles. I have had several where it took almost 2500 miles to quiet them down.

I know you said you can't stand the noise, but my advice FWIW is put about 2500 miles on them with some "spirited" pulls thrown in, try different fuel and add some diesel purge. If none of that works to your satisfaction, then consider changing the nozzles.

I haven’t tried diesel purge! I got 2 full cans. Good idea! 2500 miles huh? Well, guess I have to start driving it more if it ends up being the case!

When was the last time your fuel injection pump timing was checked? Injectors can get nosier if the fuel injection pump timing is too retarded or advanced.

And yes, Bosio's make more noise. Joke, ear plugs.

I have often wondered if the nozzles actually get quieter or if people over time simply get used to the noise.

I replaced a set of 314 Monarch nozzles with 310 Firad nozzles. With the Monarchs I had them set a little too low, about 1800-1850 psi. I am sure they were around 1950 when I tested them but after running them for about 10k miles when I pulled them pressures wre down. They were noisy at first but after just a couple hundred miles they got quiet. However, under acceleration I would get pinging. I think the pressures being low might have thrown the timing off (which is good as I checked it at the same time I did the nozzles). On the Firad nozzles, I set these a little high. Actually with the shims that were in the nozzles, they all popped at about 2050 or so which a little higher than spec but were all consistent. The pinging is gone but the car is really loud at idle compared to what it used to be. Its only been a couple of tanks so I will give it more time. I have another issue that I believe I posted about a while back with a miss that happens under certain conditions when the car is in park with the ac compressor off. Turn on compressor, or put it in drive and it is fine. Its very strange. It was suggested that I check the delivery valves. I did the seals a while back and not really sure if it started after that but I plan on pulling the manifold back off and just loosening and then torquing them down again just to make sure I did not get one off. I am not sure if this could contribute to loud injectors but it seems at this point I only have a couple that seem to be loud. I will also give it some more time as well. I am not sure yet but it seems like the MPG is down as well. My goal was to improve mileage.

Thanks folks for the response. I haven’t checked timing maybe it’s out a degree or degree and a half.

Mb140SD, where did you get monarch nozzles and why did you remove them for firad on the 606?

I ran Bosio's on both my OM617 and OM601 and they were a bit noisier but overall performance and fuel economy was better than with the old injectors.

I got them from the Germany ebay seller dieseinjection something or other. From what I understand the 314 nozzles are for 603 cars. I had the pinging and not really any mileage improvement so I decided to install the correct 310 nozzles and use the 314s later on in a 603 car.

How’s the firad for noise performance and MPG? With the bosio I am not seeing mileage improvement.

They are still somewhat noisy and I have not checked mileage yet.

I guess the days of German manufactured quiet Bosch nozzles are done. Never got the privilege of hearing these older diesels run when they were brand new. I’ll be curious for your update on the firads.

The backwards compatible Bosch Nozzles for the 617.952s have drilled passages for the idle fuel to go through. They are there in part do deal with that fuel nock.
See post 16 and 23 for a diagrams.
MONARK DIESEL INJECTORS

When the Monark Nozzles were available they were like the newer Bosch IDI Nozzles and had a flat spot called a facet instead of the drilled passages for the idle fuel again to help with the idle fuel nock.

See post 84 for a diagram of the facet.
Diesel Injector Cleaning DIY

So, Mercedes by way of Bosch tried to lessen the idle noise by special features on the nozzles.

Someone mentioned that the Bosio nozzles had a tractor like sound. And in fact, the Bosio nozzles have no special feature to lessen the idle noise and are indeed like tractor injector nozzles and in fact like most of the IDI nozzles used in the world.
