Were you able to shift before you replaced the bushings?

Is the car stuck in gear?

You may need to raise the rear and get under the vehicle while the car is running and have somebody push in the clutch and attempt to switch gears.

Definitely have jack stands and be very careful under the vehicle. Make sure you're on level ground.

Pete

Thanks for the replies yes car was shifting fine beforehand just the bushings were completely gone and shifter somewhat sloppy. The car was parked reverse up the driveway and left in neutral. I simply removed clips and rods, replaced bushings and reinstalled with this now being the outcome. I will have to jack up the car and try what Pete suggested. Thanks all will let you know.

Sorry for the late response.

First off I truly want to extend my gratitude for everyone on this forum. Since I purchased my 78 240D nearly 20 years ago, I couldn’t have done anything to it without the help of the wonderful people on this forum!

Update: Thankfully by jacking up the rear and disconnecting the reverse shift rod from the shifter finger and putting the reverse lever at the transmission in neutral then reconnecting the shift rod to the shifter finger all is well now!
