Door locks/Gas pedal 300td

Hello everyone, just want to start out by saying how much I love my new 85 300d! Ok, now I have some small issues to ask your help for. My door locks don't work. Nothing happens to any door if I lock or unlock the drivers door. I know there are a million posts on this, but I thought maybe it would be easy to troubleshoot mine for nothing works, any ideas? Also, my gas pedal is very stiff, is this common? any ideas? Thanks again in advance.

The stiff accelerator pedal is probably caused somewhere in the linkage under the hood. Generally this falls into two categories:

1) Needs lubrication.

2) Something broken.

For the first I have used light lithium grease. You can carefully pop off all the "ball and socket" linkage connections and grease them.

In the second case, there is one relatively weakly designed component in the linkage assembly - the pivot point that bolts to the firewall with two bolts. This device changes the linear motion of a rod connected to the pedal to a rotational motion to turn the rest of the linkage in the direction of the injection pump. On my '82 300D, the plastic inside the pivot point that serves as a bearing had decayed. This allowed the long linkage rod to the injection pump to pull out somewhat and there was a lot of drag.

The pivot point is a $35 to $45 part depending on where you get it. It made a lot of difference in my car's driveability. The new part has been redesigned with better plastic, it won't fail.

For people who use power washers on the engine.. those ball/sockets should be greased after each time... will last a lifetime if you do.....Greg

That item on the firewall is probably considered a " bell crank "....
