Question 1985sd Injection Pump Idle Bolt?

I want to smooth out my injection pump with a different idle adjustment bolt. Thanks to Staple for sending me one😎 I have bolt and o-ring, I have adjusted these before on other 617’s but never removed and re-install.

Suggestions Please!
Thx greazer2b

Despite the name the governor idle pin is not for adjusting the idle speed. It is for removing a bit if shaking at idle. In theory your idle speed is not supposed hang on the governor idle pin.

When you remove the one on the pump oil is going to come out.

When you when you put in the new one just put it in enough to plug up the hole and adjust the idle speed within the specs on the emission stickler.

After that start slowly turning in the idle pin. What is supposed to happen most of the shake should go away without you raising the idles speed from what you set with the normal idle adjustment screw.

When I first got my Mecedes and joined this forum I read the threads and the threads said a new governor idle pin/damper pin would cure the hot idle shakes. It did not work.

I had to raise my idle speed which was below specs.

Adjust the valves.

Change the motor and transmission mounts which work along with each other.

Rebuild my injectors with new nozzles.

Each one of the above items removed different percentages of hot idle shaking.

After all of that was done the governor idle pin/damper was able to remove a bit more Shaking.

Think about this. The idle pin/damper was made to remove some shaking at idle from a new engine were everything is all within specs. It is not there to compensate for worn out or maladjusted parts.

Some place in the threads is the instructions on how to adust it.
