Latch that holds the hood at 90° broke off, so I decided to try repairing it. Drilled the rivet holding that spring loaded latch, grabbed the broken piece, welded it back in place. Bit tough to do on such a small work piece, gave the welder the big juice (MIG) and hit it. Seemed to get good penetration, had to file it down a good bit. Primed, painted, reinstalled with a riv-nut as the pivot. Sent a screw into it with some blue Loctite. We shall see how it holds up. Beats having the hood come down unexpectedly I guess.

Thanks. I thought about doing a whole hinge, just didn't seem worth the grief.

On a side note, got my cruise control working today. That felt great! Having a car like this that wants to sail down turnpikes w/o cruise is a sin. It took both big pieces to make it work, the servo and the computer were each fried. Went with Programa on each. Now to return those cores...

OP, that’s great work. These hinges are all prone to breakage especially if they aren’t lubed regularly. The photos that Pp hosts are pretty tiny, but it looks like you can’t see the repair! Nice job!

Thanks for that compliment. I originally planned to try re-using the original parts, went through the grief of sandblasting, priming (self-etch), and painting them. Used PMR (paint my ride) Code 930 Single Stage (Silver-Blue) from Fleabay. Couldn't make use of the OE rivet, had to throw it in the bin. When I tested the color match, I was originally disappointed, but after jumping in and painting the pieces, they were DEAD ON. I Recommend this product.

That's nice .

I've replace the driver's side hinge in situ but I'll never try it again, getting the lower bolt to begin it's threads without dropping the thin washer is maddening .

I too like having functional cruise control but after $pending too much $ and time on both assemblies it *still* clicks off after a few minutes so I give up .
