W110 sagging rear-end

In the spirit of burning the candle at both ends (some of you may know from my other post that I‘m doing an engine swap on a 300SD), I‘ve come to the forum to ask about another long running project of mine, my 200D… It‘s sagging very low in the back, and tends to scrape when driving down particularly steep driveway aprons, in addition to looking ridiculous driving down the road. I was wondering if this is due to the coil springs, or if it is due to the compensating spring in the middle of the axle. Or both.

Thank you all for your time and help!
Nick.

Take all of heavy crap out of your trunk. (Humor maybe.)

Springs get old and compressed and the rubber spring pads get old. There is also rust a degradation to the chassis.

I put new rear springs on my Volvo diesel that had similarly issues and not only did it fix the sagging issue the subjective feeling was it handled like a new car.

You did not mention what sized tires you were using.

Okay, thank you! I‘m going to change all three springs… Is there anything else I have to change with the springs? Pads or spacers and such?

Thank you for the help!!

I‘m not sure what tires I‘ve got on there, I have to check!
