Unknown hose connection behind dash

When working on my A/C I found the hose pictured below is no longer connected to its 'home' on the dash next to the passenger speaker. It seems whatever foamy connector held it in place has disintegrated. Any idea what this is or what the connector part is? I don't even know what to search for on the parts pages, so any help would be appreciated.

You have placed a great deal of faith in the psychic powers of the readers.
Is this about an MB vehicle? And if so, which one?

Apologies Frank. This is a 1980 300D (Mercedes).

Our lack of such abilities ushers in divorce.

It's pretty clear what happened to my marriage.

The one on my project car lost some of its insulation from deterioration. I remember replacing the insulation and seeing a bare coil of wire about 3/4" in diameter.

If my old brain was working right at the time I reckoned it to be the piece which transferred heat (or cold) to the CC unit which senses cabin temps and makes adjustments to accommodate the temperature settings on the CC unit.

What I have found is a 1" black hose that attaches to a hard 1" tube opening that seems to just terminate in the dash. Any idea what this hose is for?

There was a foam tube that was attached to that hose and the sensor on top of your dash. I dont know if the foam tube is still available. i used a regular hose on mine.

Thanks so much @my123ca. I'll do the same. Good to know what that is though, was quite the head scratcher for me.
