1999 E300 Turbo stopped running

I changed the fuel strainer and filter today. I filled the new filter with diesel. Car started with no issue. I checked for leaks, none noted. I let the car idle for about 5 minutes. During that time, the engine began sputtering and died.

I checked the filter and the line that feeds the strainer. Both emptied.

What can stop fuel flowing like that?

Before I did the filter change, I made an 80 mile round trip run.

Thanks

check that you have the O ring in the strainer installed.

The new strainer did not have an o-ring...that may be the problem. I will check the old strainer for one.

Old strainer has an o-ring on it. I will put it on the new strainer in the morning. I cannot believe the new strainer did not have an o-ring on it, or in the package.

It was the o-ring. I had to pull it off the old prefilter. It is a bit crispy. New one has been ordered.
