190D 2.5 Low engine idle rpm

My 2.5 used to idle at about 650 rpm , when in drive . It's been that way for many years .

Recently the idle has slowed to only 500 rpm.

I had guessed at low fuel supply , although any thing over idle is normal performance , but I changed the lift pump . No change in idle speed .

What can I test to check / change the idle speed ??
