Any ideas for sunroof feet?

The sunroof feet for 123/126 are NLA. I had some plastic pieces that a member printed but they never worked as well as the originals.

Does anyone have good options?

I had one good one and sought to have someone print some with a laser printer but no takers. I got frustrated and bought some urethane to build a mold. I make one mold with the original and used that casting to make a second foot.

Then I went anal and took those two feet and made two more molds. The dimension are very suitable but the surfaces are rough. In this application I don't think it matters.

Over a period of time I lost my spare and the original bottles of urethane got hard. On urethane shore hardness was for the mold so it was soft but the solution I used for the feet was quite a bit more firm. I don't recall the shore hardnesses but I'm a fair record keeper.

How much do you think a sunroof foot is worth? Shoot me a PM if you're interested. I'll get back to you tomorrow.

Depends on how well they work. I have the plastic ones somewhere but they didn't really work great. I think the conclusions was that it would take effort to get something good enough to not feel like a rig.

I have a buddy with the right equipment to print that thing if you want me to try.
Just say the word! just shoot me some dimensions or a sample to draw up in cad.

I love getting new parts and tools out there to help people bring systems back online!

Damn, I should have bought these last summer. I'm down to spend some money to get them made! I think a lot of my wind noise is coming from the sagging rear corner of my sunroof.

It's not an issue with the feet. The lowering and raising of the rear of the sunroof is mechanical. The rubber seal is what prevents fluids such as air and water from passage.

My sunroof, when it's open, bounces around a lot and creates a bunch of noise. Is this the feet deteriorating?

I was fortunate in the last used MB sedan purchase, it didn't have a moonroof. After having two MB sedans with sunroof/moonroofs, over 25 years, I found that I didn't use them. The wind at speed was more of a nuisance than anything to me. And, the fear of a malfunctioning roof piece was always there if I used it. I wonder what percentage of 05/06 CDI sedans were non-moonroof?

Most people want them, I would venture. My brother loves the moonroof feature of my last MB a '99 E300, that he now owns.

BMW or VW use the same sunroof? They may have useable parts for this. As an example BMW sun visor clips work well sans the electrical contact for the mirror and cost a lot less.

I'm not sure.

The total dimension those feet reduce (the gap it fills) is only a couple of mm. I suppose if both are missing it might make a bit of noise but it seems if its violently shaking that's a curiosity.

It takes my imagination places which frighten me. Pull the finish panel and see if the mechanics are inordinately loose.

Mine bounces when I have the headliner panel out.

Re feet felt, I think I'll try buying some generic felt and cutting some.

I had some squares of felt that are used for furniture feet to make them slide. One side is sticky so I cut pieces to fit and put them on the sunroof where the original slides are supposed to be.

I cleaned the tracks and lubed with Sil-Glyde that was in the tool box. The felt was originally too thick but a razor blade took care of that. I'll have wait to find out how long it lasts and may have to glue the felt to the roof.

For now, it works very nicely. The car is an 85TD with the manual roof.
