Cruise control amp on W124 ‘87 not shutting off (self inflicted)
I recently did the full re-flow/re-solder of my cruise control amplifier and replaced the capacitors. It works almost perfectly now! Small detail though…. It doesn’t shut off. It comes up to speed and holds it without any surging - everything seems to be working great. But when I push the cancel on the stalk or tap the brakes, it gets that signal correctly and shuts off momentarily but then resumes the last set speed. If I hold the stalk back, it stays off until I let it go and then resumes the set speed.
Fortunately, I can either 1) hold the slower (stalk down) until it is out of range or 2) drop the transmission in neutral at the next light and turn the car off and back on to turn it off completely. So no Runaway Ralph thing going.
I’m hoping it’s a simple fix that I will be able to identify via a visual inspection such as I accidentally got two pads soldered together or something similar. I haven’t taken it back out to inspect yet as I am incapacitated for a week or so. But I thought I’d run this by the group and see if anybody has any thoughts on how to troubleshoot or fix. Or if this is happened to them.
