Im doing an r134a conversion. I want to replace the hoses, but only find 190e hoses available. Does anyone know if they will fit the 601 engine?

No. 190E won't fit. You need to be creative. I used a 1987 300D AC hose and bent it. It is not easy, you need to know what you are doing.

I told my local mechanic that people in s cal would be experts on this. Under the circumstances, since my ac works but needs recharging every year (or so,) how essential,is it to replace these hoses? IYHO of course.

If you are using AC professional then he/she would be able to advise you and work everything out. Good luck.
