Saw a Diesel???
I saw a real clean w124 at costco this afternoon - nice factory wheels, Pirelli p4000 tires, swirl-free black paint, 300D and Turbo on the rear deck. My question - there were no vents in the right front fender! Forgive my ignorance, but I thought all w124 diesels had vent slots in the rt front fender. Were there certain years that didn't have these slots?

I think only the later ones have them ('90+)

Yes, the early w124s didn't have the slots.

300D 2.5 Turbo had them and so did W124 E300 Diesel with 606 motor.

I've always wondered about those slots- I assume they are specific to the Diesels-
Did these slots solve a cooling issue that came up with the earlier models?

No cooling issue. The '87 W124 300D Turbo with the OM603.96x engine had the air intake up front. The later '90-'93 W124 300D 2.5 Turbo with the OM602.96x AND the '95 W124 E300 with the OM606.91 engine had the air intake ahead of the passenger side (right) fender.
