Rusty Jackpoints
This a common problem? The previous owner of my freebie wasn't exactly much into body maintenance, and the jackpoints are extremely rusty. I decided to just fill up the holes with that hard spray foam insulation (works quite well in areas I cant actually remove the rust from) and then waterproofed over them. Was this a good idea? If moisture cannot get to the rust, then the rust will have a harder time spreading I assume? Are rusty jackpoints common on "daily driver" category cars? Also, I fiberglassed the rust in my backseat left and right sides. Thank god the rust was just located where the welds were located. Same thing with my VW Bug, always rust at the welds. Ah well. Just curious if any of you have had these similiar rust issues.

This is a common thing with the w123 in certain climates, especially the Northeast. Nothing to really do about it but to fix it with new rocker panels. Very expensive to be done right, only for it to happen agian... eventually. At the factory, they used to inject hot wax, parafin to protect from rusting, over time, this breaks down, rendering useless. Good luck.

yep ,, went thru this stress with my wifes previous car ( 240D ) ended up replacing the entire left side floor and half the right side floor .
Fiberglass add ons and bog filling just doesnt do anything for the structural integrity of the car . Rust NEVER SLEEPS .

Like the first person to come up with a real cure for baldness, I am sure that the first person to come up with a real cure for rusty jackpoints will be a rich person indeed!
Coatings or fillers only work until the moisture gets between the coating and the metal (which it inevitably will), then the coating becomes a detriment, because it traps the moisture. I have rusty jackpoints too. I think the best solution would be to treat it like the disposable part it seems to be..... Develop a modular part that bolts in/out in minutes. Of course, then the bolting holes would rust....

kyle, my car has the same symptom. to avoid it getting worse i scraped all the corrosion off that i could get at and sprayed the whole area including inside with rustoleum paint. 6 months later it's not getting worse, but there was for sure some metal loss. next step is to figure out a more permanent fix.
