rack damper pin - fuel shut off relationship?
Would adjusting the rack damper pin possibly affect the engine's shutoff characteristics? Up until today, I've had no problems with the engine shutting down when the key is turned off. But this weekend I adjusted the rack damper pin slightly, and today I'm noticing a definite lag between turning the key to off and the engine actually stopping. I have driven the car since doing the adjustment but had not noticed a problem until today.
Thanks, Dan 1985 300D 95,000 miles |

You probably knocked a vacuum line loose. Check all vacuum connections around the vicinity of the injection pump. Make sure the plastic lines are pushed FIRMLY into the rubber connectors, and check those for cracks too.

If you screw the pin in too far, you can cause hard starts cold due to too little fuel. You have a problem with the vac cutoff, most likely.
