If it's not one thing it's the other

Today for the first time after I started my car the starter did not immideately dis-enguage, and keeps griding for a few seconds. I started the car about 7 times today and it did it all 7 times. Is it time for a new starter? How tough is it to put in a starter on a 603? Thanks..
