MB-Tex still an option today?
Is MB-Tex still used by mercedes today? If not, when were they used last? My parents are thinking of getting a new benz, and I'd have them get Tex over leather due to tex being indestructable under normal use.

Mention MB-Tex and many a Mercedes Veteran will get all teary eyed. Never before not since has there been such a material. The "elusive hide of the nauga" taken to new heights.... But now, MB-Tex as we knew it is not standard on all Mercedes Cars like it was. I believe the lesser models come with "half-leather" whereas only the parts where your arse touches the seats is leather, the rest vinyl. MB-Tex is the best, never again will it find itself in any American Mercedes car, it just doesn't make sense to market what is really a fake leather. Now that even Kias come with leather, and all segments have moved upscale, MB-Tex is forever lost.
Funny story: In 1986, my parents took delivery of a brand new 300E. Light Ivory over Palomino MB Tex. Two weeks into the courtship, the new car smell got caustic. So much so, we were getting dizzy from the noxious ordor that was our new Mercedes. We took the car back 5 times. It was later determined by the factory that the supplier that supplied this car's MB-Tex was of a different supplier than what most cars have. It was recalled, and we got a new car with leather, a then rare option in any mid-range Mercedes. |

Yeah that all makes sense. I would ask if I were buying a new MB. The new baby C class coupe comes with cloth seats standard... you'd think they'd go with MB Tex on that car in place of the cloth.

M/B Tex
M/B still offers this in the Taxi Units it supplies in Germany.
Was there recently and rode in a 6 month old E220 CDi with M/B Tex. There is an option number for it somewhere if you can get your dealer to find it. Mike |

I know that the interior codes for older cars with MB-Tex start out with a 1. I looked through the list of option codes I have a didn't see one for taxi's. I do however see where it lists the codes for MB-Tex, there is something in the heading that has been translated to say"Taxi leather".
