Any opinions on this would be greatly appreciated.
On my 1984 300D, I have the front end torn apart to replace literally everything that moves or that’s made of rubber.
I noticed in the service CD that in addition to the standard 2 part lower control arm bushing, there is an optional 3 part bushing available - it is supposedly used for later cars, cars with 15” wheels (factory original on a 123???), police duty cars, or cars with a “high load” on the front axle. I would surmise that since the Diesel engine weighs more than some American big-block engines, and with all the options & big bumpers on U.S. spec cars, that would constitute a “high load” on the front.
Apparently the three-part bushings were introduced on the 126 cars. It seems that the three-part bushing is engineered to provide different radial & lateral deflection characteristics. I am wondering what the differences are as far as ride characteristics or steering accuracy are concerned? Is it really worth bothering with them, or should I just put the two-piece ones back in?
Has anyone used these bushings on their 123, and what have your results been?
Thanks for the help!
