That's correct - no diesel 4-matics (at least in the US to my knowledge). Aaaand...you really don't want the early AWD system. It's been referred to at $-matic more than once

I once really wanted the regular gas 4-matic w124, but soon abandoned the idea after hearing what a maintenance, and repair nightmare they could be....now I have to wait till the W210 4-matics ( much simpler and still effective design) come down in price a bit

I wanted a diesel wagon 4x4 also so I built one myself. I took a 1981 300TD turbo diesel, romoved the suspension and put the body on a 1984 Nissan 4x4 frame. I have a picture of it that I can email someone if they can help me post it. I'm not that savvy with some aspects of email so I don't know how to get the picture out of the email and post it here.

oh well, I guess I'll just have her settle for a later 90's E320 $-Matic. That is really to bad they didn't make it in a diesel model.
