240D Oil filter??

I have a '76 240D and there are 2 types of oil filters listed for it. Im wondering how to figure out which one i need. Can i look at the vin or somthing and tell when it was made?
Any help would be appreciated.

I don't have any definitive answer for you ... but have you taken yours out of your car.... then looked at pics of the ones available? I have seen where some are listed as Break IN filters... which I think have about half the filter covered with a shield... why I do not know...
Where was it that the two were listed ? Have you tried calling 'Fast Lane' ? That is the parts company associated with this site... they are very helpful and friendly...

PS, it is ALWAYS a good idea to have your vin number near the phone when talking to people...

Fastlane shows the same filter from 2 different manufacturers, Hengst and Bosch. I would go for the Hengst, simply because some of the Bosch oil filters are made in India, while the Hengst are still made in Germany. You might want to get a spare oil prefilter while you're at it. Those are cleaned and re used. Since it's a bit messy, it's easier to keep a spare and alternate them.

What car/engine are you refering to having a prefilter? I am not familiar with a prefilter being on the car. I own an '82 300SD.

Thanks,

Rob
