Philabuster, your turbo Mercedes should not be slow off idle. If it is, very likely your injection pump is low on fuel delivery off idle (I'm assuming your valves are adjusted, clean filters, etc etc). You can try tweaking the ALDA which helps is some cases (but not all). Worst case you have the IP calibrated. Either way, a properly running OM617.95x should leap across intersections and not cause the driver anxiety!
BTW- If you live at a high elevation (above, say, 3000ft) you're kind of screwed, as off-idle response gets worse the higher up you go. At 4-6k ft my cars are noticeably sluggish off the line, yet at sea level they're rockets. I live at 2400ft and the power loss is not too bad at that elevation.
