W123 tranny price

I hve 266k on my 1984 300DT tranny and the slips and thumps are getting abit more everyday so i think i'm in the horizon for a tranny change. I've had the tranny modulator, bowden cable and vacuum system all checked out.. I've read some posts(bad stories) about getting a rebuilt tranny from sources other than the factory. My indy quoted me a factory rebuilt tranny plus labor for $2400.00...sound reasonable? I already posted a querry for Caliber Motors in Anaheim ,Ca...a MBCA member who works there gives MBCA members a discount. Do you guys know of other reputable sources for trannys...hopefully in or around Southern California? Thanks again.

Since you have time, what about looking for a rusted out POS from the recycler and taking the transmission out of it. Just a thought...Aloha

The junk yard I go to has a tranny in every MB on the lot...he say's they are as tough as heavy equipment transmissions. He told me I could have any one I wanted for $300.

There is a place in Paramus NJ, I think it is Silver Star Transmission, or soemthing like that. Very highly reccomended by people. I think you can get a rebuilt for ~$1500. $2500 is too much for just the transmission.

Do a search on here for Ridge. He is moving and has one in SF that he needs to get rid of - sounds like he was trying to give it to whoever comes to pick it up.

ken300D ...the yard I was talking about is Sonny's in Culpeper Va.
It is off of Rt. 229. I make a trip there at least one Saturday a month to make sure I don't miss out on any "new" cars he get in.
If you need the phone # ...just let me know. Brandywine would have one also...maybe not the same price.
