92 300D 2.5 Turbo
Is this particular year any good? Does it have a reworked 350 motor or is this motor one of the long lived variety. I don't want to waste my time with in depth checking if the 92 is known to experience serious engine/transmission problems.
Thanks All. |

I believe the 2.5 is a 5cylinder. These models are supposed to be quite nice, not as quick as the 86-87's but pretty much the same otherwise. Maintainence means more than anything else. RT

The 602 engine in the 92 2.5 Turbo is a good one. It is NOT know for rod bending or head cracking like its siblings (the 603.96x and 603.97x) found in the 350SDL, 350SD, or '86-87 300D/300SDL. However, like all these engines, if they've been run out of oil and/or coolant there will be serious problems.

I have one. They are very nice to drive. If taken care of, they are long lived engines.

Gr8 fuel mileage, too, between 29 and 34 mpg.

Do these later 124 chassis still have the same a/c evaporators? If that was fixed and the engines are decent, this diesel would make for a great 124 car.

I have had a great go with mine. Easily the most inexpensive and pleasurable MB's I have owned.
The big expences for me over the past 60K have been: - Radiator, hoses and thermastat - $350 - Fan, fan clutch, belt and tensioner - $700 - Front struts- $250 - vacuum pump for door locks - $100 It has a great ride, wonderful gas mileage and a confortable interior. I would recommend one with leather and ASD!! Good Luck!
