In the summer I use "Invisible Glove". Its some sort of cream that comes in a tube. You put it on your hands and rub it in you skin and under your nails. Dries to a bit of a "tack". After working any grease or dirt just washes off. Works great.
In the cold (minus 35 and I'm replacing the rear end on my 83 300SD...spun bearings) I use anything that will keep my hands warm! I've also found that an electric paint stripper set up so that it blows on the area where my hands are is a God send. Just not on high and far enough from anything that might burn.
